On November 27, 2024, the Langub Alumni Association (LAA) was distinguished with the prestigious Gold Award at the Stakeholders' Summit 2024, organized by the Department of Education, Region 7, Central Visayas. The event, held at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel, celebrated the significant contributions of various stakeholders to the educational landscape of the region. Engr. Maria Carmen Alegarbes, the current president of the LAA, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the association.
This recognition was awarded to the LAA for its impactful initiatives that have greatly benefited Langub Elementary School and its students. The association's close collaboration with the school management, led by Mrs. Magdalena A. Camajalan, and the unwavering support of Mrs. Imelda H. Gealon, District Supervisor, were instrumental in the successful implementation of various projects. Additionally, the involvement of Atty. Jonathan Villegas Sr., Vice President of the LAA and Chairman of the Committee on Education in the municipality of Argao, facilitated the legal documentation necessary for the association's initiatives. The LAA's efforts align closely with the goals and objectives of the Schools Division of Cebu Province, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for students in the region.
Founded as the official association for past students and faculty of Langub Primary and Elementary School, the LAA aims to foster connections among alumni and friends, building lifelong relationships that contribute to the future of the school. As a non-partisan, non-profit organization, the LAA relies heavily on voluntary contributions from its active members around the globe, reflecting a strong sense of community and shared purpose.
In 2024, the LAA successfully completed its flagship New Computer Lab Project, valued at over half a million pesos. This initiative equipped Langub Elementary School with ergonomic workstations, 13 laptops, a 75-inch Smart TV, and two air conditioning units. This significant investment in technology not only enhances the learning environment but also prepares students for a digital future.
Moreover, the LAA has made substantial strides in supporting students' educational journeys through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Langub Elementary School in June 2023. This agreement established a scholarship program that awards high school scholarships to the top three graduating students each year, ensuring that academic excellence is recognized and rewarded.
The LAA's commitment to the well-being of its students extends beyond academics. In May 2023, the association organized a Medical Mission to provide essential healthcare services to students at Langub Elementary School. This initiative underscores the LAA's holistic approach to education, recognizing that health and well-being are critical components of student success.
The LAA steering committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to all alumni and friends worldwide who have supported their mission. The Gold Awardee recognition from the Department of Education serves as a powerful motivator for the association, inspiring them to continue their efforts for the benefit of both the students and their alma mater.
